Sgt. Montgomery entered into the Army Air Corps during WW II. He served as a Tuskegee ground crewman in Southern Italy from 1943 - 1945. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the Honorable Service Medal, and the European / African / Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Dabney, a Selma, Alabama native, seved as Martin Luther King, Jr. personal body guard during the Sema march. On March 29, 2007, he received the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, presented by President G.W. Bush to all original Tuskegee Airmen.
